It was lovely meeting with each of you last week. Thank you so much for taking time to engage in these important discussions about your child. I genuinely enjoyed our conversations. Please remember, if at any point during the year you have any questions or concerns please drop me an email.
It was a very busy week of learning. We continue to focus on identifying and naming all of the letters and letter sounds. We have also been working on drawing lines and simple shapes.
Learning to draw lines will help your child get better at drawing detailed pictures and will help the children learn to print letters and numbers with correct formation. Here are the lines we are learning to draw:
- horizontal lines
- vertical lines
- zigzag lines
- curvy lines
- loop-pity loop lines
- dashes
- dots
We learned that Terry Fox is a Canadian Hero. We talked about what a hero is, someone who is brave, strong and kind and willing to help others. We also identified some community helpers in our community who are also heroes , such as police officers and fire fighters.
A big thank you to our wonderful moms this morning who were able to volunteer on our fall walk. Thank you so much for your help and support! Without our amazing volunteer parents we would not be able to participate in field trips.
The learners were very excited this morning to investigate and describe changes in nature. They loved collecting different kinds of leaves. After our fall walk we read a lovely fall story Read Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlers . Next week we will spend some more time investigating our leaves and drawing leaves in our visual journals. Next Friday, our PM class will go on our fall walk.
Fall provides many wonderful opportunities to talk with your child about the changes in nature. Below are some fun ideas to extend your child's learning at home:

Fall provides many wonderful opportunities to talk with your child about the changes in nature. Below are some fun ideas to extend your child's learning at home:
- Go for a walk to look for signs of fall
- Collect leaves of different shapes and colors
- Find piles of leaves to jump in
- Have your child help you rake the leaves in your yard
- Go to a pumpkin patch and have fun!
- Calgary Corn Maze has many fun pumpkin events and activities taking place over the month of October.
There are also a number of books available at the public library, our school library and from bookstores on the topic of fall. Some titles you and your child might enjoy are:
- The Thankful Book by Todd Parr
