The Kissing Hand

Hello Kindergarten Families,

We had a great first week of Kindergarten. I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know your little ones! Our first few days together were spent establishing a routine, exploring a new school and classroom environment. We spent some time learning how to show respect to our classmates by sharing, listening to others and waiting our turn.

We also read  The  Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.  It is a lovely story  about a little raccoon named Chester who is very nervous about starting school.  But his mom has a secret to help him feel confident while he was away from her.  Before going off to school, Chester's mom takes Chester's hand, opens his tiny fingers, and kissed Chester in the middle of his palm.  Mrs. Raccoon told Chester that whenever he felt lonely and needs a little loving from him, he can just press his hand to his cheek and feel the love from his mommy.

The learners were also very excited to make a very special Kissing Hand Poem to bring home to share with you.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the year.  It's going to be a fun year with lots of learning and new adventures along the way.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at michelle.lai@cbe.ab.ca

Have a wonderful weekend!

Warm Regards,
Mrs. Lai
