Pink Shirt Day & Maker Space Challenges

Happy Saturday!  What a ridiculously cold month it was in February.  Thank you for encouraging your children to dress appropriately for the weather.   Next week, the weather looks like it will warm up a little.  When the weather is lower than -20 (with the windchill) we do not go outside for recess.  However, when the weather is warmer than -20 we do like to get the kids outside for a short 10- 15 min fresh air break to play outside.  It's important that they are always dressed for the weather.

This past week we celebrated Pink Shirt Day. It was awesome seeing all of the students in their pink shirts this week.  During the month of February, we have been very focused on reading stories about friendship and being kind and we continued that focus this week as well.  On Pink Shirt Day, we also read a story called Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies.  It's a great story for kids, about what to do when you need help.  I would highly recommend all parents to read this story with your child at home.  It's important for all of the students to know, that when they need help they can always talk to their teacher.

Both AM & PM classes LOVED exploring the Maker Space this week.  I  know some of you may be wondering, what is a Maker Space?  A Maker Space is defined as a "collaborative workspace inside a school".  At our school, our Maker Space is located inside the library.  The focus of the Maker Space area is to encourage the learners to explore, create, and encourage problem-solving.  Please enjoy some pictures of our learning.

Warm regards,
Mrs.  Lai
