Thursday Was Really Terrific!!
Both AM & PM students have been working on a variety of learning activities around rhyming. One of our new favorite songs is called Words Shine When They Rhyme. Please click on the song below to sing along with your child.
We have also been working on counting, representing numbers in a variety of ways, and learning how to subitize. Subitize is the ability to "tell the number of objects in a set, quickly, without counting." For examples, subitizing is what tells you what number you roll on a six-sided dice. Most adults no longer to have count the dots on the dice while playing a board game. We have been reading books, playing games and singing songs to help us learn this concept. One of our favorite math songs on this topic is called Subitize Rock by Jack Hartmann. Practice your subitizing with this subitize song.
Lyrics
Subitize, subitize
Use your brain
Use your eyes
See a set, then think quick
Say the number in the set
(Say the number of dots in each set)
Subitize, subitize
Use your brain
Use your eyes
See a set, then think quick
Say the number in the set
(Say the number in the ten frames)
Subitize, subitize
Use your brain
Use your eyes
See a set, then think quick
Say the number in the set
(Say the number of fingers)
Subitize, subitize
Use your brain
Use your eyes
See a set, then think quick
Say the number in the set
